Second Place for the Acool Turabi with the Power of Aegean and Lloyds

04 June 2014

This year's Posidonia Cup was organized with great success by the Hellenic Offshore Racing Club (HORC) and Posidonia Exhibitions on Friday, May 30, 2014. A total of 58 sailboats participated in the race.

The 13 nautical-mile regatta started at 1pm on Friday and evolved in a rather unique and difficult race because of the strong west-to-northwestern winds that were blowing since early that day at a speed of over 30 knots (6-7 Beaufort). The difficult weather conditions made the race difficult, but the crews of the 58 participating vessels proved capable and seaworthy.

The Acool Turabi team, sponsored by Aegean Shipping and Lloyds Register Marine, stood on the podium of the Posidonia Cup Yacht Race 2014. With Antonis Dimitrakopoulos as skipper and George Melissanidis, Apostolos Poulovassilis, Nicholas Brown, Andreas Rakopoulos, Dimitris Chochlakis, Leonidas Pelekanakis, Emmanuel Pasamichalis, Antonis Krents, Stylianos Kritikos, Nicholaos Damianos, and Iasonas Dimitrakopoulos as crew, the twenty four-meter bright white boat competed in the IRC category and completed the 13 nautical-mile route in one hour and thirty one minutes. The first vessel to cross the finish line was the Grey Goose Of Rorc (Deloitte). Two minutes later followed the Acool Turabi and then the Abraxas (Thenamaris LNG Inc.). The Acool Turabi missed the first place to the Grey Goose Of Rorc by 55'' (after time correction) and finished in second place.

The Posidonia Cup award ceremony took place on Friday evening at Lake Vouliagmeni in an idyllic atmosphere. Crews exchanged impressions from the regatta and watched highlights from the Posidonia Cup 2014 race on TV screens sponsored by Samsung. The evening ended with everyone wishing to reunite and compete again in the Posidonia Cup 2016.
